Goal Tending

I had another great goal-tending month in February! In addition to registering for the RWA National Conference, I also averaged nearly 1100 words per day and am waiting to hear back on a partial request from an agent. And somehow I have managed to maintain my three times a week Pilates schedule as well.

More good news--my son's dog is finally responding to treatment for diabetes. After two months, blood sugar as high as 692 (no, that isn't a typo), and two kinds of insulin, yesterday he tested at 491 on 35 units of Novolin twice a day. The vet bumped up the dosage to 40 units twice a day, in hopes that may control his blood sugar levels. At $61 a bottle for insulin, I'm paying almost $200 a month for medication. Then there are the weekly visits to the vet, boxes of syringes, urine test strips, special food, etc.

I have decided to add another goal for March. One of my manuscripts has hovered near completion for several weeks, so this month I want to finish it. That will bring my total to four completed 90,000 word manuscripts!

Time to drag those words out of my mind and put them on paper, so to speak.

Goal #2

In making my list of goals, I thought to push myself to finish those WIPs. Who knew it would lead to forcing a resolution to a problem I've been mulling over for a couple months. I saw my hero and heroine's dark moment coming and had thought of one scenario, but hadn't been able to work out how to get them there. Yesterday I had an *Aha* moment! After weeks of working on other manuscripts, I finally made it back to Allie and Mike. And goal #1 is becoming easier to achieve with my new-found inspiration. Last night the words wanted out faster than I could write. I'm still hearing their voices in my head calling for more of that conflict. Hopefully my hands and eyes won't give out before my brain does today :) Maybe I'll be able to cross one story off my to-finish list soon!

Signing off to work on goals 1 & 2,

Out of My Mind

What a title for a writer's blog, huh? Sometimes the mind of a writer is a scary place--so many words trying to force themselves onto the page (or computer screen). While composing this blog, my brain is also subconsciously working on one of several in-progress manuscripts.

Now would probably be a good time to tell you that I write romance. Highly emotional, many times issue-related, steam-up-the-windows contemporary romance--for the most part. I've also written a historical short story, still romance and still steamy, and am currently putting together a non-fiction proposal about uterine fibroids (see issue-related above--and only one of many).

Sure, I know it sounds like I'm unfocused. But in my defense, I have finished five manuscripts in addition to the eight works-in-progress and the n-f thing. At this point, I have to say I'm happy not to be suffering from writer's block!

I hope you enjoy reading what comes out of my mind, and what sometimes drives me out of my mind!
